Chikatsuyu: The Arrival of Spring and a Nighttime Cherry Blossom Feast

It’s already April, but the days are still quite chilly.
In Chikatsuyu, the plum blossoms have fallen, daffodils and magnolias are starting to bloom along the roadside, and soon the cherry blossom season will arrive. The flowers bloom one after another, like a relay of the seasons! Unlike in the city, here you can see many different flowers blooming all around, creating a beautifully colorful landscape. The other day, a foreign hiker who visited here said, “This is heaven!”

Amidst all this, the 300-year-old weeping cherry tree in the Nonagase family’s garden has reached full bloom a little earlier than the others. Invited by our neighbors, we enjoyed the sight of the blossoms while heading to the NONAGASE GUEST HOUSE beer garden.

Together, we raised our glasses with a cheerful “Cheers!” while admiring the beautiful weeping cherry blossoms glowing against the night sky.

The Nonagase family has a long history, tracing back to the Nanboku-chō period as a clan of local leaders in Chikatsuyu who supported Prince Moriyoshi, the son of Emperor Go-Daigo… (_; Well, in short, they’re a truly distinguished family!

A peaceful moment of enjoying cherry blossoms in full bloom.
I suddenly thought, “When was the last time I went cherry blossom viewing?” As I reflected on history, I enjoyed a delightful evening.

Guesthouse COZY is blooming with flowers too!
