Chikatsuyu, along the Nakahechi route, prospered as a post town for the Kumano pilgrimage.
In ancient times, when retired emperors made their pilgrimages to Kumano, elegant gatherings of poetry were often held here in Chikatsuyu. It was a graceful moment in which even the gods and Buddhas seemed to share in the delight, leaving a timeless atmosphere of beauty upon this land.
“Without choosing between belief and disbelief, without rejecting purity or impurity, and without distinction of status or rank” — Kumano is a land of great openness that embraces all. This spirit of tolerance still lives on in the people of Kumano today. With hopes for tomorrow in their hearts, travelers too will surely find their spirits soothed here.

STAFF

For 30 years I worked as a company employee, experiencing the many ups and downs of life.
By nature, I prefer being on my own rather than in a group. Yet, meeting people has always been my greatest joy, and I treasure the moments when someone tells me, “I’m glad I met you.”

While reflecting on my life, I walked the Kumano Kodo, and a new breeze swept into my heart. Guided, as if by the deities of Kumano, I moved to Chikatsuyu. Now, together with my wife who has supported me for many years, I warmly welcome guests to this land.

We hope that the encounters along the nature-rich Kumano Kodo will become memorable moments not only for you, but also for us as a couple.
